What Mike is up to when Elly isn't paying attention...

*sneaks in*

*looks around an empty room as tumbleweeds roll by*

Honestly, I cannot believe it's been four months since I last posted here! I have a billion excuses for why I haven't updated before now, but you guys aren't here for that. All I can do is try to post as often as I can. I really do want to get through my list of Fifth Panels to do before they become too old and forgettable. I honestly find it hard to remember any of the new-runs, and I'm sure it's the same for you all too.

Anyway, without further ado...

This is a combination of Elly's obsession with cleaning and negligence of what's really important and Mike's own unnatural obsession with a preschool girl named Deanna. I'm not sure if I like this image or not, I just wanted it up! It's been sitting half-finished in my sketch book for months! Enjoy!

  1. OH, boy....This was worth the wait. It would be just like Elly to not notice something important because she's too busy feeling sorry for herself.

  2. And a firebug is born! When the house burns down, it will somehow be all John's fault. And Mike will run in to save his journal of "I love Deanna/Fat as a pianna" poems

  3. Exactly, DC2! I always found it interesting how you all found horrible problems looming while Elly was focusing on the inconsequential things.

    April, I like your projection!

  4. Oh, gosh! I read your strip before I read your explanation, and I thought he was worshipping a picture of a young Elly! Which is just as plausible and just as horrifying. But, yes, good work, whether it's Elly or Deanna or Jayne Mansfield.

It's no wonder they called April "the Martian." She probably did seem very weird to Elly and John, compared to their two older "normal" kids.

Josephusrex, when I was doing ARB, I always imagined April as being in a situation similar to that of Marilyn in The Munsters. To the outside world, Marilyn was normal and pretty--but to the Munsters, she was a freak who had to be handled delicately because of her terrible disadvantages. Likewise, I saw April as a fairly normal person who had the misfortune of being surrounded by Patterfoobs who considered her a Martian.

  6. Michael gets over his obsession with Dee the moment they are married- a clear cut case of Wanting being so much better than Having.

I've suspected that this would have happened to Anthony's Liz obsession if the strip had not stopped with their settlenuptials. No way could real, live Liz ever match the imaginary Liz he developed in his insular brain over the years.

  8. LOL @ JosephusRex! Yeah, I guess that picture of Deanna was on the small side and could have been mistaken for Elly...it's still an interesting interpretation, though! Elly would definitely have Mike worship her over at FOOBAR, because after all, it was her editing skills that got Mike's book published, wasn't it?

John, that would have been interesting to see with Anthony and Liz's marriage after the wedding high has worn off. The same goes with Mike and Deanna. I'm afraid it wouldn't be a funny strip at all! But you've given me ideas for my foefic which is still in development.
